  • I’ve been a rock musician and singer. I wrote the lyrics and musics for my bands and my vintage electric Gibson Les Paul Junior guitar from 1962 is still one of my dearest possessions.
  • I’ve lived in Florida, USA, for six months.
  • I’ve worked at the radio drama and documentary department at the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. I had a wide range of work including making illustrations and posters, designing the programme, translating plays and documentaries, designing the web site, reading plays for consideration and making a documentary about Sufism together with Timo Sundberg. In my spare time I devoted myself to making and performing rock music and creating sculptures & paintings.
  • I enjoy travelling and I’ve visited 20 countries.
  • An oak tree grows outside my windows. I take photos of it (almost) every day.
  • I’m frightfully impatient for Apple’s new revolutionary device, the iPad, to be available in Sweden!
  • I love tiles and mosaics. In my collection there are tiles and mosaics from Italy, Portugal and Spain. One tile tragically broke, sliding off the luggage trolley at an airport in slow motion. Still sadly missed. The mosaics in these photos are from the Golden Hall in Stadshuset, the Stockholm City Hall, where the Nobel Laureates and guests dance after the annual awards banquet. Imagine a hall completely covered with these gold mosaics – candlelit!

  1. A woman after my own heart!!!

    • Fellow mosaic fans! :) Love your creations, Concetta!

  2. Kate – I love posts like this! Love learning things about people. Two things really resonated with me, well three really. 1. I wish I had been a singer with a band! 2. I did Asian Studies as my other degree at university and studied Islam in a lot of detail. Sufism was something that always particularly fascinated me…the beauty, the ecstasy. 3. I saw some mesmerising, glittering mosaics in Rome (and all over Italy) and wonder if you have any favourites there?
    Thanks for another lovely post.

    • Hello Twirling Betty!

      1. It’s never too late.
      2. Oh, how fascinating with Asian and Islam studies! Yes, I found that aspect of Sufism interesting too. And the poetry.
      3. There’s so much beautiful mosaic work in Italy!!! LOVE, love love! But hard to pick some favourites, isn’t it? Ravenna… *big happy sigh*

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  3. I love knowing more about you! And I was astonished when I read your new “about” from the assignment! There are so many more layers to Kate that we readers of Marmalade Moon don’t know. A rock star? Why am I not surprised ;)

    • Amy, well I think everyone is multi-layered really. We all juggle different roles and we are all of those roles in one person. Sometimes time changes the perspective too. What was the story five years ago, might not feel so “defining” in the present. It’s interesting… the fluid identity.

I totally LOVE the way you describe yourself and your work in the about section of your blog! I think it’s about a year since we got to know each other, and here you revealed another layer of yourself and I thought, “yes, I get it now”. Again. :)

  4. I love knowing these things about you! You truly rock! :)

    • Thanks Steffi! So glad to see you! Hope your internet time out is doing you a power of good and that all is well with you! Take care! ♥

  5. I love your list, especially the Gibson Les Paul jr guitar. I made my list, you will have to check it out, as it shows how really crazy I am :)

    • Haha, thanks Megs! Well I knew you were crazy before… but now…. :D Seriously, that’s a great list! Quite fun, isn’t it?

  6. Thanks for sharing Kate. These are seven things that make me want to come to Stockholm to meet you in person. You are even more interesting now than I thought before.

Your post is leading me to think of seven things I’d like to share about myself. If it’s alright I’d like to reuse your idea and pass it on.

PS> The Golden Room in the Stockholm City Hall is nothing short of INCREDIBLE! I can’t imagine what it would be like to sit and meditate in this room. Is this room open to the public? How did it end up being in the city hall and not in a temple or church somewhere?

For those who’d like to see it click on this link to see a pic on Wikipedia http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f0/Gyllene_salen_2009.jpg/800px-Gyllene_salen_2009.jpg

    • Sarah, thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a lovely comment!

Of course you can use the idea to share seven things about yourself on your blog! For me it turned out to be quite a fun thing to do. Please do let me know what you come up with for yourself, I’d love to read about it!

And yes, the Golden Hall is totally AMAZING! It’s a room that is designed as an expression for Stockholmer’s love for their city. And can you believe that at the time, some people were very unhappy with it?! They didn’t think it was beautiful enough! You can’t please them all… ;D

Thanks for finding that link to a picture that shows the hall in all it’s glory! I realised that was a good idea and added a link at the end of my blog post to a page with a few images of the hall.

The City Hall organises guided tours and only opens its doors for visitors who are take part in one of the tours. If you visit, you could always write in advance to ask if you may receive the permission to meditate in the Hall.

  7. Wow – what a list! and I bet there are still plenty more where that came from…. My favourite? The oak tree…would you have guessed? xxx

  8. What a great list of getting to know Kate. I love that you take a photo of your tree everyday and you’re a rock star. :) so very cool. I like sufism a lot.
I’m waiting for about a third generation of the ipad, you know the one which will play flash movies. I’m so glad to know more about you. thanks for sharing this.

    • Thank you Valarie! It turned out to be a really fun starting point for a blog post! At first I felt really shy about this part of the Kreativ Blogger Award, but I ended up having a lot of fun sharing some more of my layers. So thank you for that too!

I should think it’s a wise idea to wait for the 3rd generation iPad. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it, when you get it!

  9. I love reading about your charmed life; it all sounds quite magical and abundant…and yet, and what I really love, it seems to be the simplest things that you are the most attracted to.
Like photographing the same tree everyday :)

    • Dale, thank you! Yes, nature is a huge inspiration for me. And in my day to day life, it’s those small things, a few cones on the pavement, the peach and lavender sunset, a magpie visiting my balcony garden that bring me so much joy. Oh, and photographing the same tree, every day.
