Breaking Ice
Breaking Ice
I just finished this painting as a thick layer of mist rolled in from the lake. “Breaking Ice”. The colour palette is very much the same as in this reference photo I took of ice floes on the lake. Inspired by nature, the turn of the seasons, the lake, the beauty and miracle of an everyday experience or “ordinary magic” as mosaic artist Concetta brilliantly phrased it.

Your painting is really beautiful :)
Wow, Kate, the blend of colors is fabulous! I’d love to hear more of how you captured this beautiful effect!
Did you paint it outdoors?
I love this one, great job!
wow. The colors are amazing. Almost mysterious. I can just sense it—the ice and the water. I can feel the cold mist on my face, see the depth of color in the water. love it! And I love that your interpretation of this time of year is so very different from what I associate with the season. It really is beautiful, Kate.
Oh, Kate… this is ethereal…celestial…LOVE it! Very magical moment in time you’ve created with this one… Hugely impressed! It’s been misty, foggy, gray and chilly here…bbbrrr…Hope you’re having a wonderful, creative weekend, my friend :o) ((HUGS))
So evocative Kate…painting with feeling indeed! And thanks for the quote (blush). Have a good week. x
This is truly wonderful Kate, one of my favorites of yours so far!
Dearest kate, this painting is gorgeous! Makes me feel really clam looking at it. :) Have a lovely merry happy week and love to you!
Hi Kate. Wow, that is so great! I enjoy the airbrushing over the whole thing. Very calming and also very clean and modern. Beautiful! Great job!
Dear Kate, I love your new direction!! This painting is so beautiful, delicate and has a shimmery misty glow!! :))
Awesome design, and I like the mystical touch. Kind of reminds of a Röyskopp song ;)
I truly can’t tell you how much your kind words here mean to me! This piece really feels so important to me, actually, like breaking ice somehow… What makes it feel so special is perhaps that it’s a new style for me, as well as some new techniques and that I really look forward to creating a series of paintings in this style.
Again, many thanks for your comments! Now back to struggling with the scanner and printer to see if I can make prints with this!
“ordinary magic” is a wonderful phrase; I like that. This painting is beautifully serene, as is the photo. I love…love…love your interpretation.
I hope your printer and scanner cooperated nicely for you. These are prints that *must* be made.
This is such an exquisite painting. I can really feel spring coming on. Usually I think of flowers blooming but it’s true if you live in a snowland that the first sign you would see is ice breaking and snow melting. This is just great Kate.
