A Brilliant Idea

I’d designed a Diamond Icon as a club special for January, and when club members asked if I would like expand and make it a series I thought it was a brilliant idea! So during 2012, Club Members will receive a gem icon each month.
I have so much fun when I do research around design and art projects, and gem stones turned out to be fascinating! So before I go back to designing the an amethyst for February, here’s what I wrote about the garnet in the January Monthly for club members:
Garnet. The Birthstone for January
Garnet, one of the oldest gemstones in human history, dates back to Ancient Egypt. The shape of a Garnet resembles a rounded grain, and it derives its name from the Latin word granum, meaning grain or seed, or granatus, which means pomegranate, because its dark red stones resemble the seeds of a pomegranate.
The glowing, deep red of the garnet indicates the connection with love, passion, energy, sensuality, courage and desire. Garnet is the stone of passionate devotion. To your family, your friends, yourself, and to your purpose or goals.
Garnets are thought to spark creativity, positive energy and self-confidence and bring success to one’s career or business. Because of its healing and guiding power, the garnet has been a popular talisman carried by many travelers. And as if all that wasn’t enough, the garnet is said to bring luck!
The garnet has a wealthy history and is surrounded by legends, from Persephone to Noah. In Indian mythology, the garnet represents Kundalini, the fire of eternal metamorphosis. It’s been used by Native Americans, crusaders, pregnant women in Ancient Rome, and by kings and queens.
Now you can put it on your desktop and let it represent something that is deeply meaningful to you.
