Blue Branches

December. Walnuts, swedes, cranberries, turnips, pomegranates and passionfruit.

This year the Winter Solstice occurs on December 21. This is the shortest day or longest night of the year and I think it’s fascinating that although the interpretation of Winter Solstice has varied from culture to culture, most cultures in the world and throughout the times, celebrated it as a turning point and have held a recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around this time. And still do.

Blue Branches is inspired by my longing for light during the dark winter months. The crisp blue quality that is specific to blue winter’s skies in the north and the beautiful twilight blue hour or l’heure bleue, with its intense blues. I’ve been documenting the process of how this image was created in my Creative Minutes project.

This desktop picture is a perfect match for the collection of Luminous Blue Folder Icons and as usual the download includes fullscreen, widescreen and iPhone versions, both with and without a desktop calendar for December.

Cupcakes of Happiness by Susannah Conway

Cupcakes of Happiness by Susannah Conway

Aren’t they delightful, these Cupcakes of Happiness by photographer Susannah Conway of Ink on my fingers?! Simply irresistible!

I love how grey brings elegance and sophistication to pink and was inspired to design a set of pink cupcake icons with a matching cupcake desktop wallpaper. Strawberry, violet, raspberry, orchid and cherries.

This delicious, limited edition desktop art is available for members of Club Marmalade Moon, so join the club if you haven’t already!

Satsuma Sky

November. Chestnuts, satsumas, celeriac, mangos, parsnips and pears. Darker days and candlelit evenings. Shades of orange and brown. I’m so enjoying experimenting with watercolours and collage techniques. This desktop wallpaper takes its cue from the autumn skies, watercolours and the explosive oranges of autumn leaves. A perfect backdrop for both Luminous Orange Folder Icons and Luminous Purple Folder Icons.

The download contains fullscreen, widescreen and iPhone versions, with and without a desktop calendar for November.

Montage

1 October 2009 Filed in: Art & Design, Creativity, Wallpapers

October. Russet, plum, dark brown, rust, gold, purple and green. Mushrooms. Candied apples. Figs. Pumpkins. Roasted chestnuts. Halloween. And as I walk down the road, a scattering of acorns, pine cones and oak leaves.

I’ve been working on this image, inspired by my trip to Öland and the graffiti in a medieval castle. Creating a dreamscape in a whole different format when I realised it would work as a desktop wallpaper too, so I adapted the montage with its layers of writing and watercolours to desktop sizes and also made a desktop calendar version for October. This download contains fullscreen, widescreen and iPhone versions, with and without the calendar. Montage wallpaper works very well with the collection of Purple Luminous Folder Icons, the Orange and Pink Folder Icons.

Electrifying Blue and Purple in September

1 September 2009 Filed in: Art & Design, Icons, Journaling, Wallpapers

bluegarden

As summer deepens, progresses, turns towards autumn, my balcony garden turns into shades of blue and purple that bring bumblebees and butterflies to visit. Lavender with bluish-purple flowers and slender, aromatic, grey-green leaves. Mint and chives in purple blossom. The purple haze of Perovskia, Russian sage. Tuscan Calamintha with its cloud of light purple blossoms and its intoxicating scent! Salvia Caradonna, is a real drama queen, with exquisite regal purple flower spikes, on purplish-black stems stained with reddish violet, towering above the foliage! And deep purple, almost black, aubergine ripening.

All these electrifying shades of blue and purple as well as a getting the late summer blues, has inspired me to create both a collection of icons and a wallpaper.

lavender Oh, I love purple! My balcony garden has given me so much inspiration for a much anticipated, brand new collection in the popular series of Luminous folder icons! This time it’s a volume of Purple folders.

This colorful series of icons is my take of the folder icon in Mac OS X Leopard. A minimalist folder icon to help you stay productive with neatly organized projects, and in style too! The series comes in a wealth of colours, to brighten your digital landscape and make it personal or to color code your projects.

You’ll find the Luminous Purple Folder Icons on the Icons page.

sapphire-desktop-preview This summer I’ve been experimenting with minimalist, geometric compositions.

Blue and geometric, is the theme for my new desktop wallpaper. Inspired by September’s birthstone, the sapphire. Members of Club Marmalade Moon also receive a September desktop calendar with this motif.
