Legacy Icon Archive

iMac-G4 or the iLamp
Here’s a legacy icon archive with the icons that I designed for what now are “vintage” or “classic” operating systems. From pixel art to early vector and Photoshop creations.
A treat for the collector, this legacy icon archive includes everything from Hype Hair to Birds Eggs. I managed to salvage these icons before retiring my trusty old iMac G4, finding icons I’d created ten years ago, in 2000.
Please note that these icons don’t have the fancy large versions that are standard for modern operating systems which is why they look pixelated if displayed at larger sizes than they originally were designed for.
The Legacy Icon Archive includes: Assorted Icons, Autumn Leaves, Bird Cherry & Lilacs, Birds’ Eggs, CDs, Celebration, Christmas in Sweden, Citrus, Daffodils, Diskettes a la Copland, Eyes, Hieroglyphica (Egyptian hieroglyphs), Hype Hair, Knot Right? (How to tie a tie), Nasturtiums, Rose Petals, Sakura Cherry Blossom, Semla, Snow Flakes, Snowdrops, Tulips, Zip Disks a la Copland, SyQuests a la Copland.

Thanks for the iCons! I almost forgot how to tie a tie until I saw the Knot Right icons!
Laughing! Yes, it’s pretty funny… an icon tutorial?
Kate, now i just realize that I have at least two of your icons sets in my archives! (I love icons, and a portuguese website featuring icons I loved was one of the main reasons that decided me to create my own site in 2004)
I think I must have used your lilacs on my first bright pink iMac, and I still have the Birds eggs in my “active” icons collection – I recently showed the file to my SO who uses one. Small world, once again :).
Thank you for your kind comment and that’s amazing! What a small world! I wonder if that Portuguese site might have been run by a mother with two daughters who all made icons and desktop wallpapers together? I can’t remember it’s name…
Indeed it was, Luisa Cortesao and her daughters Ana and Rosa, the site was called colheres:

Most of the icons I used back there were Luisa’s, the mother. One of her daughters is Rosa Pomar, her handmade dolls have became quite successful I think. Did you enjoy colheres too?
Oh, and I checked: I downloaded the Birds Eggs in september 2003 :).
Wow… 2003…
And oh yes, that’s it! Colheres! Yes I did enjoy their site and it was so nice that it was a family project too! It’s great to hear it’s gone well for Rosa with her dolls!
Dear Kate, Thank you so much for sharing. I have downloaded the collection and love all the flower icons :))
Thanks kate…..I love the icons. Now I will get busy organizing. Take Care.
wow. thanks! the snowflakes and snodrops and gorgeous, but the tulips won me over, now that it’s spring.
So many great icons–you are quite generous to offer these. :)
I was hoping to be able to convert the Mac files into Windows icons and thus get 128 pixel .ico files of some of these (namely the autumn leaves, bird’s eggs, bird cherry, and rose petals), but though I’ve got a program which can convert many Mac icons into Windows icons (.icns, .bin, .rsc, .rsrc), it doesn’t recognize the .mbn format at all. :(
Addendum: the real problem isn’t the icon format; it’s that .dmg files pretty much refuse to extract properly into Windows.
Hello Cat, perhaps you can try the Windows version instead?
Oh, I have those already, but they only stop at 48×48 pixels. I know that many old Mac icons went up to 128×128, and it’s the larger images that I wanted to convert.
Consider it a testament to how much I like those particular icons that I’m trying everything I can think of to get them updated. :)
Cat, I didn’t quite understand what you meant at first. But now that I do, I’ve sent you the Mac versions in zipped format. Looking forward to hearing how the conversions work!
Thank you so much!
Several were in 32×32 format; couldn’t do much there. Heiroglyphs and Sakura Blossoms were already in 128×128, no improvement needed. I’m sending you the others by email. Thanks again!
