Satsuma Sky

November. Chestnuts, satsumas, celeriac, mangos, parsnips and pears. Darker days and candlelit evenings. Shades of orange and brown. I’m so enjoying experimenting with watercolours and collage techniques. This desktop wallpaper takes its cue from the autumn skies, watercolours and the explosive oranges of autumn leaves. A perfect backdrop for both Luminous Orange Folder Icons and Luminous Purple Folder Icons.
The download contains fullscreen, widescreen and iPhone versions, with and without a desktop calendar for November.

Hi Kate! I see you’ve used the excuse to use orange too :) I love this wallpaper–did you create it on the computer? Sorry if that’s an ignorant question, but it looks so much like a watercolor painting. However you made it, it’s just gorgeous. I especially like the subtle, orange outlines of birds against the November sky.
Hello Michele, laughing about orange, but yes, I’m finding myself so attracted to these burning yellows and oranges of autumn! I don’t think that’s an ignorant question at all! It’s not easy to tell, with all the possibilities given! It’s a watercolour painting collage. So that the background part is one painting, then I made the bird shapes and copied those parts out of other watercolour paintings and assembled them. So the watercolours are created with traditional paints, scanned in, and then the birds are assembled/composed/created on the computer, but other than that I didn’t tweak the image in Photoshop. It was very fun and interesting to see the contrasting grains in the different paintings work together!
Thanks for explaining! I never would have been able to guess all those steps on my own. I love the effect!
Love this! You are so amazing – I do not even LIKE orange very much but you made me love it here!
Thank you Hope! I’ve been having such sensational colour sensations this autumn! For example, yellow, if someone asked me what my favourite colours are, I would not think of yellow. But when I SEE it – oh – the joy and wonder!
I’ve been enjoying your journalling on your blog, and again, congratulations on getting hitched!
