Soon September
iPhone Photography: Roses outside the studio
Clinging onto summer. Although life has picked up speed, I’m trying to hold on to pockets of easy and slow life. Simple cooking. Swims in the lake when the weather permits. Either there’s been a heat wave or else it’s been rainy and chilly, and it’s like summer never quite happened this year. Although, of course it did. Actually, it’s still summer, I’m just being a bit dramatic I suppose…
Despite a wonderful and inspiring journey to Visby during our vacation in June, I wouldn’t say no to another week, or two, of beautiful summer weather to recharge and soak up the sun before autumn begins.
How has your summer been? Are you ready for the promise of change in September, for a fresh start with sharpened pencils and leather boots, or would you rather linger on in sandals, dipping your toes in the warm lake?

oh I’m ready! How I do love to linger in summer, but come the end of August, I am ready for a change. A break in the heat, a new routine. As you know I’ve been on an extended blogging vacation, but I am ready to get back to it all, with renewed enthusiasm, inspiration and motivation. Six days until the first day of school. The countdown has officially begun.
Your journey to Visby seemed magical. no wonder you dream of going back already!
The picture is beautiful…what an inspiring scene to look out on as you work. If only you could smell those roses through the glass!

I love to hear how re-energized and motivated you feel! Isn’t that just perfect this time of year, at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere!? Six days! I’ll be thinking about you during the countdown!
I wish there’s fall here in malaysia. The weather’s been really warm these pass months and i can’t wait till the heat cools down a little. Your photos are soo gorgeous and inspiring! Love the view from your studio and simple cooking is my favorite! Have a lovely merry happy day and love to yoU!

Hello Jacqueline! Yes, our climate is different and I’m so curious, what is fall like in your part of the world? I hope you have a beautiful day!
It sounds like we have had a similar summer to you Kate – lots of rain! We had a lovely start but as soon as the boys stopped school the rain started and all the plans for camping, sleeping outside and endless days in the sun making and enjoying have come to nothing….don’t get me wrong, we have enjoyed every single wet moment but I still hanker for all those summer moments that just didn’t quite happen. Ah well there is always next year and if that is soaking wet too, I’ll just move to be near Amy or Jacqueline – it sounds like they got all our sun! :D
That sounds EXACTLY like our summer! And I feel the same way, I’m trying to be gracious about it, after all, it’s just weather… Things could be worse, right? But I still feel like I want my money back on this summer. Or – just a week of sunshine? Please?
GORGEOUS photo, Kate… it’s like a last taste of summer–which is what now is! :o) We’re still holding on to summer with gentle fingertips. I’m always sorry to see summer go… But I do love the changes & promise each new season brings. Summer was a bit odd for us in many ways, felt like we missed some of it with illness and family issues. We’ve got an early autumn trip in mind to stretch out the summer a bit. Autumn can be rainy here though, so remind me of my embracing autumn here… LOL! Happy Weekend, my friend ((HUGS))

Hello Tracy, thanks so much for your kind words about the photo! I’m sorry you too felt a little shortchanged on summer! Last winter was SO rough too, that I had hoped for a really nice summer. What a good idea with a late summer trip to extend summer!
Hi Kate,
I could use another month or two of summer…….my dresses and flip flops never get enough wear time. I have not had enough days lounging at the beach, or camping in the woods looking at stars….
Thank you for your comment about my facing forward and self reflection earrings on my blog. I see the wing spread in the self reflection earring now – very nice. To answer your question about whether I am using my sketchbook from the sketchbook project… her is a post I just finished on my fear of using that book. http://sbdoodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/08/patsy-kay-kolesar-facing-forward.html
Hi Patsy, lets hope for an Indian summer and at the very least some star gazing? I’ve been enjoying reading about your thought process behind your work! Off to see your post about the sketchbook!
Oooooh, that is a hard question for me. I love summer (yes, even here in florida) but the change up of every season always brings excitement. Your seasons are a bit more extreme than what we experience; I imagine that you must have a strong favorite.
The beautiful photo of the roses and sparkling water drops is a perfect illustration of what I love so much about summer.
Dale, yes, I feel our seasons are a bit more different and distinct. I love the change, and often feel an excitement about each one. I think spring and summer are the ones that I have the greatest expectations for. A reward for the dark and cold winter, although winter has its own beauty… Thank you for your kind comment about the photo!
another wet summer here – if i can scrape together enough canning magic to fill my jars, i will feel better about moving in to autumn. but the gardens just have been unhappy with the weather this year – we’re hoping for a bit more summer! love this photo!

Sorry your garden suffered from the summer weather! Hope you get a decent harvest! Take care!
Hi Kate,
I cannot believe that it is almost September. Where in the world did summer go. We have had a very hot summer both on Gotland and here in Tennessee. Recently the weather has cooled down and there is a lovely breeze blowing on most days. My garden looks gangly, even though it has been watered all summer. It wasn’t a stellar gardening year. I do, however, have a bumper crop of figs. Be well and enjoy the end of the season.

Valarie, I hope you enjoy your harvest of figs! That sounds like a spectacular treat, especially when you feel a bit disappointed in the rest of the gardening year!
I love the pictures in this blog, the first one is really lovely, I love the way the rain catches the light. I can’t believe that the second one is taken on a phone too! Its really clear!

Well, here in Florida, we don’t have a chance of getting the fall feeling. We just hope the weather will stay below 90 after the sun is directly up over us.
But your descriptions and lovely photos evoke wonderful memory thoughts. thanks for the beauty seen in your eye, before it reaches us!
The only bad thing about MY summer is that I didn’t spend any of it in Sweden!
