The journal of Kate England

On My Mind in July

It’s been an exceptionally warm spring and early summer. There’s been heavy rainfall too. Soon it’s already Midsummer’s Eve. The second summer of the pandemic.

  • The Ebb & Flow of Creativity: In the shadow of the pandemic, with days and months and years that just seem to drag on, I’ve started doing quarterly themes of art and inspiration. That’s why it’s essential that the theme has a start and an end.

  • On my Palette: Watercolours. Rose red, violet, lemon yellow, and tree green floating out on crisp white sheets of paper.

  • Reading: This Life by Martin Hägglund and Emotional Sensitivity and Intensity by Imi Lo.

  • Stationery: Loving the Creative Juice stationery box designed by Amy Hastings and produced by Papergang. It’s delightful and bold.

  • Audio: Listen to forests from around the world: Tree.fm. Or go on an interactive, geolocated sound walk with the innovative app ECHOES. You can also make your own creations, for your listeners to physically walk inside .

  • On my Radar:

  • In my Kitchen: My take on Danish smørrebrød. Radishes, cottage cheese, lemon and cucumber on rye bread with sunflower seeds.
